Manchester United appear to have found a long-needed midfield talisman in Casemiro this season, but they will have to get used to being without him for the next few games.
The former Real Madrid man was sent off against Southampton for what the referee deemed a high challenge.
United may well appeal the decision due to Casemiro’s offending foot appearing to deflect off the top of the ball before making contact with Carlos Alcaraz, but it would still seem unlikely to succeed.
Casemiro was a stranger to straight red cards before arriving in England, having previously only been sent off for two yellow card offenses. Now he has been given straight reds twice in his last three Premier League appearances.
It all means United will have to do without the Brazilian for a while. Manchester United games Casemiro will miss during his suspension.
The FA Cup game against Fulham will be the first of the four-game suspension. Nonetheless, should United get through then he would be available for the semi-final.
The first Premier League game he misses could be a crucial one. It is away at Newcastle United, who have not given up hope of finishing in the top four. The Magpies will also be keen to avenge the Carabao Cup final defeat to United a game in which Casemiro scored.
Manchester United then has a revenge game of their own as they welcome Brentford who thrashed them 4-0 in August at Old Trafford.
Casemiro will then complete his suspension in the home game against Everton, which is currently scheduled for April 8.
