Gunmen have abducted a medical doctor, Dr Mansur Muhammad Dansadau, in Zamfara State.
Muhammad, the Medical Director of Dansadau General Hospital in Maru Local Government Area of the state, was abducted at Mashyar Zaki, a dreaded spot along Gusau-Dansadau road.
The Zamfara State Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Dr Mannir Bature, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, June 28.
“NMA Zamfara obtained with deep shock the report of Kidnap of Medical Director General Hospital Dansadau Dr Mansur Muhammad,” a statement read.
“The unfortunate incidence occurred on Saturday June 25th, 2022 at Mashayar zaki along Dansadau - Magami Road in Zamfara State.
“We urge our members to include him and other abductees in our prayers while the association work with relevant authorities to ensure his timely release in good health.”
Meanwhile, a resident of Dansadau, Jafaru Bashari, said the medical doctor was amongst the hit list of the bandits operating in the area.
“They wanted to kidnap him last year when they attacked the hospital and kidnapped some nurses but he was not around. We were told that they (gunmen) were looking for him to abduct so he could be their doctor because they had been attacking the hospital to get at him without success till Saturday,” he said.
Mr Bashari said aside from the medical doctor, the gunmen also abducted a ward attendant and caregiver who were traveling with him.
A family source, who asked not to be named, said the medical doctor was shuttling between Dansadau and Gusau, the state capital, because he was afraid of being abducted.
The source said negotiations have started and the gunmen are asking for N20 million ransom.
