UBTH hospitalised patients leave, as strike remain
The Patients hospitalised at University of Benin Teaching Hospital are shifting to different hospitals as resident docs on the health center remain their strike.
National Association of Resident Doctors had on April 1 commenced into a national strike as a part of measures to pressure the federal government to enforce the settlement reached among the union.
Communicators visiting the hospital discovered that the hospital was empty of crowds regardless of the skeletal services on offer.
A source in the hospital stated that patients taking treatment on the hospital had to look for another medical care in different hospitals now no longer concerned by the strike.
He stated despite the fact that consultants aren't on strike however they can not cope with the number of patients coming for treatment because of the limited numbers.
Speaking with our Communicator, UBTH ARD President Dr Ifeanyin Ofuani, stated there's complete compliance with the strike directive at UBTH.
He stated it doesn’t truly make sense to call off the strike whilst the primary call for of the union has now no longer been met.
"The strike doesn’t now no longer have an effect on consultants, they'll be on the responsibility however some thing they'll do can be very slow due to the fact they limited in numbers.
He but referred to the patients to cry to the government who're answerable for the strike to fulfill the demand of docs.
Simultaneously, UBTH public relations officer, Joshua Uwaila, stated since the strike, the hospital has endeavoured to keep skeletal services in the depleted human resources to mitigate the effect of the strike.
"Temporarily, numerous patients have had to look for another medical care in different hospitals which aren't concerned by the strike."
He stated the hospital is hopeful that the ongoing conversation among the resident medical doctors and the federal government would yield desirable result.
