Reps urge FG to review $1.5bn Portharcourt Refiner cost

The Minority Caucus of House of Representatives has called on the federal government to inspect the proposed $1.five billion for the rehabilitation renovation of Portharcourt Refinery.

In a statement signed through the Minority Leader, Rep Ndudi Elumelu, on Tuesday, the caucus stated the figure turned into outrageous and massively inflated.

It added that a essential cost analysis found out an alleged large rip-off and a ploy by unscrupulous elements to hide beneath the guise of rehabilitation of the refinery to siphon public budget.

The caucus stated that even as it supports any authentic attempt to bridge the energy deficit in Nigeria, such have to now no longer be used as a ploy through corrupt people to fleece the nation.

It, however, delivered that the project may be transparently carried out at an amount, some distance much less than the approved over bloated cost.

"This over bloated $1.five billion cost has once more delivered to the fore the prevailing unpatriotic proclivity of treasury looting and crook diversion of public budget thru inflated contracts through officials of government for his or her egocentric interests."

"It is absolutely unexplainable that the sum of $1.five billion, belonging to Nigerians, is to be funnelled toward the rehabilitation of a non-profitable refinery, which has already been slated to be passed over to personal hands," the caucus added.
