We have been giving technical advise, trainings, capacity building to farmers

The Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) of the Catholi Archdiocese of Ibadan, has said it has in no small measure contributed to the growth of farmers in Oyo and Osun states.

Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune on the sidelines of the 12th annual farmers forum of Sustainable Farmers Association of Nigeria (SUFAN) facilitated by the Integrated Development Programme of JDPC, Ibadan, a Senior Programme Manager, Mr Ogunbosoye Akinsola Alaba, noted that it had been the usual practice at JDPC to bring the farmers together to share ideas, experiences and to display goods and also to honour those who had excel in those various practices.

He further stated that over the years, we have been giving technical advise, trainings, capacity building to farmers. Not that they have not been doing their thing but what are the new ways that we can have better productivity? Now that we have the challenge of climate change, how can the farmers also adapt to the realities of climate and can they apply that realities to their production such that at the end of the day they are not also losing out.

“Also, we also look at some of us especially youths who have been jobless out there, we created a programme we call youth in agriculture initiative where we have some of the youth going into agriculture and they are doing very well.

“So, so far, so good, it has been a very good story despite the fact that there are challenges but it has been a very good and successful story for the farmers otherwise you would not have seen them being happy here today.”
